This is one of the statements made by Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights of the European Commission, during the third edition of the UfM Workshop 'Towards a new Social Economy agenda for a sustainable and inclusive Mediterranean', organised by Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and CEPES hold last 4 November. This event brought together representatives and experts of the social economy from 20 different nationalities from Southern Mediterranean and European countries. The agenda of the workshop focused on the future European Action Plan for Social Economy and how this will strength the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the social economy.

The meeting was attended by, among others, the secretary general of the UfM, Nasser Kamel, the commissioner of Employment and Social Rights of the European Commission, Nicolas Schmit, the minister of Social Economy of Morocco, Nadia Fetah Alaui, the secretary of state of Employment and Social Economy of the Government of Spain, Joaquín Rey and the head of the OECD Social Economy and Innovation Unit, Antonella Noya, together with the President of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño.

Barcelona will host on November 22 the II Mediterranean Forum of the Social Economy, which will be held in March of the 'Medaweek Barcelona 2019'. This II FORUM is organized by the Euro-Mediterranean Social Economy Network that has led CEPES since 2000 and the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Mediterranean (ASCAME). In this international meeting, the work that this business model performs in the countries of southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East will be analyzed and made visible. In them, there are more than 3.5 million companies that generate 15 million jobs.

Yesterday, the book The Social Economy in the Mediterranean was presented that brings together more than 500 pages, analysis and opinions of fifty personalities of the Government of Spain, the European Institutions and international organizations and experts in Social Economy . The work is a reflection of the strength and potential of this business model

The ESMED network, an entity that coordinates CEPES since 2000, shows its support for the call of the Ministries responsible for employment of the 43 States of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in favor of the creation of a Euro-Mediterranean ecosystem favorable to the social economy that unleashes the potential of these companies and entities, as reflected in the final declaration of the Ministerial Conference on Employment and Labor of Cascais (Portugal) on April 2 and 3, 2019.

Barcelona will host next Friday December 2 the First Mediterranean Forum of Social Economy, an event that will be framed within the actions of the 10th Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders (MedaWeek) and where Agents cites political, social and business will be given will analyze the contribution Social Economy to the development of the Euro-Mediterranean region

The ESMED Red and ASCAME, have agreed to strengthen their collaboration to promote and strengthen the social economy in the Mediterranean region. This business model, now has more than 900,000 companies generating more than 8 million jobs and involve more than 100 million people. In this line, the next 2 December will take place in Barcelona the First Forum of Social Economy in the Mediterranean as part of the 10th Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders. This meeting of regional and international in scope, give greater visibility to the contribution that the social economy makes the social and economic development of the Mediterranean.

After the meeting held in Hammamet (Tunisia), the Euro-Mediterranean Network of Social Economy (Red ESMED) brings together social economy organizations in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey. In these nine countries over 500,000 Social Economy Companies that generate more than 7 million jobs are posted.

The report "The cooperative enterprise in the Mediterranean" presents the situation of the cooperative societies in the countries of the Southern Mediterranean shore and in Europe, which account for more than 200,000 cooperative which counts on 170 million members and create 6.3 million jobs

CEPES this morning the day 'Cooperative Company Actor of Social Economy and Social Development in the Mediterranean'. The opening of the conference will take place tomorrow, 8, from 9.30 am at Hotel Nelva.

The conference will bring together delegations from eight countries cooperatives of the Southern Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Tunisia and Turkey), along with representatives from Spain, Portugal, Italy and the European Union.

Taking advantage of the international year of cooperatives in 2012, the Conference aims to give a greater visibility of the cooperative movement in the economic and social development of the Mediterranean partner countries of Spanish cooperation (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania, Palestinian Territories, Tunisia and Turkey), together with Spain, France, Italy,Portugal and the rest of the cooperative movement in Europe.
