The Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU will be a "key" moment to place the social economy at the center of Europe's agenda. This is one of the conclusions of the meeting held on Monday between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the highest representatives of the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES) and Social Economy Europe (SEE, representative entity of the sector in Europe). "The meeting held with Sánchez demonstrates, once again, the commitment of the president and the Government with the Spanish and European social economy," said the president of CEPES and SEE, Juan Antonio Pedreño, after the meeting.

CEPES, shows its "surprise" and "disappointment" at the fact that the Plenary of Congress does not contemplate any proposal of the social economy in the Employment Law Project, which was approved by the Congress of Deputies on Thursday, December 22. Since last July when the Employment Bill entered the Congress of Deputies, CEPES, within the framework of its usual proactive spirit and institutional collaboration, sent to all the parliamentary groups of the Committee on Labor, Inclusion, Social Security and Migration -in charge of processing this Bill- 17 proposals for amendments. One of the proposals presented by CEPES is aimed at correcting some unwanted effects caused by the 2021 labor reform, which hindered or prevented the use of capitalization due to unemployment in the cases of incorporation as members to cooperatives and labor societies. CEPES trusts that the Senate can correct this incomprehensible decision adopted by the Government's Parliamentary Groups.

The Spanish Business Confederation of the Social Economy (CEPES), has presented in Spain the European Action Plan on Social Economy. Specifically, he has transferred how the more than 50 measures of this plan, launched by the European institutions, can be transposed for execution in Spain. He did so this Thursday at an event, attended by almost 250 people from different countries and held in a hybrid way at the Bertelsmann Space in Madrid, with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy and in collaboration with the European Commission, Social Economy Europe and different regional governments, under the slogan 'The European Union's commitment to an economy at the service of people and the planet'.

This Wednesday, the United Nations organized the second Conference to work on the United Nations Resolution on Social Economy that is expected to be approved in June 2023. This was stated by representatives of countries around the world at this event held in New York. The event, organized by the governments of Spain, France, Senegal and Chile with the support of the United Nations Inter-Agency Working Group on Social and Solidarity Economy, focused on 'How can the international recognition of Social Rights and the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) contribute to achieving the SDGs through social and inclusive innovation?'. The objective of this event was to raise awareness about the positive impact of social economy development, and how it can contribute to achieving the SDGs and making countries' recovery more inclusive, resilient and sustainable.

The president of the Spanish Business Confederation of the Social Economy (CEPES), Juan Antonio Pedreño, received on Monday the International Social Economy Award 'Txemi Cantera' 2022 from ASLE (the business association that brings together the Labor Societies and Investee Companies of Euskadi). This award, which this year celebrated its 32nd edition in the Yimby room in Bilbao, seeks to recognize people, companies and institutions from around the world for their defense and promotion of this business model. Chaired by the Second Vice-Lehendakari and Minister of Labour and Employment of the Basque Government, Idoia Mendia; the award ceremony included the interventions of the Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, the president of ASLE, Kepa Olivares; and ASLE manager Jone Nolte.

CEPES expresses its satisfaction with the leadership of the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy and the initiative of the Government of Spain at the event held at the United Nations headquarters last Friday in which the bases were laid to promote the first UN resolution on Social Economy. The event, called 'Contribution of the Social and Solidarity Economy to the SDGs and potential of a resolution of the UN General Assembly on Social Economy', was organized by the Government of Spain with the support of the ILO (International Labour Organization), UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) and the United Nations Inter-Agency Working Group on Social and Solidarity Economy

CEPES welcomes the adoption by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) of a Resolution and a Recommendation, respectively, to promote the social economy at the international level in coordination with the governments of its member countries. The ILO Resolution, which addresses the role of the Social Economy in promoting decent work, was adopted during the plenary session of the International Labour Conference in which representatives of the 187 governments that compose it participated together with representatives of trade unions and employers. The OECD Recommendation was adopted by the Council of Ministers of its 34 Member States, and calls on countries to develop ecosystems favourable to the social economy through the design of enabling legal frameworks and to facilitate access to finance;

CEPES celebrates the PERTE of the Social Economy and Care, which has been presented this Friday by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. According to the estimates of the employers of the Social Economy, this PERTE will increase the weight of this business model in GDP one point, going from the current 10% to 11%.

CEPES expresses its satisfaction with the reactivation of the State Council for the Promotion of the Social Economy, which was established last Friday in response to a historic claim by CEPES, after more than eleven years without meeting. The Council is a key channel of dialogue with the Government, one of the most important that the social economy has, since it allows the focus to be placed on issues of maximum interest to the sector. This first meeting has laid the foundations for collaboration, coordination and dialogue between the social economy and the General State Administration and an intense roadmap has been established.

CEPES celebrates the commitment reached yesterday by 23 EU ministers who support the social economy portfolios to promote the social economy business model in Europe. The agreements have been adopted in Paris at the first informal ministerial conference dedicated to this issue, organized by the French presidency of the Council of the European Union.

CEPES has met with the Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, to analyze the Labor Reform in Social Economy companies, as well as the aspects that concern the entity in this regard and that have not been included in the new legislation. In the meeting that has been "positive and constructive", a roadmap has been established that establishes technical meetings with the affected groups and modifications of some regulations, such as the Law of Insertion Companies, the Law of Cooperatives or the Law of Economy Social.

The main findings of the international project led by CEPES on conducive legal frameworks for social economy were presented during the online event organised by the OECD together with other five international consortia involving 136 partners from 30 countries

This is one of the statements made by Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights of the European Commission, during the third edition of the UfM Workshop 'Towards a new Social Economy agenda for a sustainable and inclusive Mediterranean', organised by Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and CEPES hold last 4 November. This event brought together representatives and experts of the social economy from 20 different nationalities from Southern Mediterranean and European countries. The agenda of the workshop focused on the future European Action Plan for Social Economy and how this will strength the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the social economy.

More than 1500 people around the world attended the OECD high-level virtual conference 'Social and Solidarity Economy: From the Margins to the Mainstream' hold last week. The six international consortia selected by the OECD in the framework of its Global Action “Promoting Social and Solidarity Economy Ecosystems” - financed by the European Union - have been highlighted during this event. The main conclusions of the project led by CEPES “Legal Ecosystems for Social Economy- Peer Learning Partnership” (PL4SE – PLP) involving 25 organisations and governments from 3 continents were presented as a unique and innovative opportunity to address the new challenges and opportunities for the social economy. Spain played a very relevant role in the agenda of this event, with the participation of the 2nd Vice-President, Yolanda Diaz, who stated that Spain has one of the most developed ecosystems in favour of the Social Economy at global level.

Yesterday, in the city of Coimbra, the Iberian Social Economy Summit was held, in which the governments of Spain and Portugal signed a new ambitious and promising Memorandum of Understanding on the Social Economy, in order to strengthen common ties between both countries and promote this business model bilaterally between the two, as well as internationally. The Memorandum contemplates the following lines of action: - Specifies the role of the National Social Economy Councils as bodies for consultation and exchange of experiences on legislation, the Transformation, Recovery and Resilience Plan and the European Action Plan for the Social Economy. - Exchange of information for the realization of statistics and the definition of the methodology in the realization of reports. - Establishes the biennial periodicity for the celebration of the Iberian Social Economy Summit and undertakes to develop joint proposals to promote the presence of the Social Economy in the framework of the Ibero-American summits.

Last week, the Monitoring Committee of the Luxembourg Declaration, chaired by the Government of Portugal during that year, agreed on the CASCAIS DECLARATION, which once again confirms a resounding commitment by European governments to the Social Economy business model, insofar as the commitment derived from this document to promote the model and the recognition it makes of its contribution to the European Pillar of Social Rights. Through this declaration, they undertake to reinforce their commitment to the previous guidelines formulated in the Declarations of Luxembourg, Bratislava, Ljubljana, Madrid, the Manifesto "Pact for Impact" of Paris, and in the Declaration of Toledo that was signed by 18 EU governments last year.

Through this opinion, the CoR provides a series of policy recommendations focused on three points - training, dissemination and financing - for the work of this plan, which aims to promote the contribution of the Social Economy to local and regional development in Europe. In this opinion, the CoR praises the Commission's commitment to present such a plan, in line with the requests of the European Economic and Social Committee, the Intergroup on Social Economy of the European Parliament, GECES, different EU governments and committed European networks with the development of the Social Economy as Social Economy Europe.

A first seminar brings together experts and representatives of the 25 partners of the international consortium led by CEPES to advance towards favourable legal ecosystems for the Social Economy at a global level.

The OECD held last 20 May an online conference that brought together the six leaders of the consortia chosen by this international Organization, which will develop projects to promote Social Economy ecosystems in key strategic areas. The six projects that will run from April to October involve 136 partners from 30 countries and are funded by the European Union. The project led by CEPES focuses on promoting favorable legal frameworks to the Social Economy at a global level by a consortium of 25 organizations such as national and ministerial public departments, local and regional governments and Social Economy entities from a large diversity countries od three continents.

Ibero-America facing the challenge of coronavirus', The Business Confederation The Spanish Social Economy (CEPES) has requested the collaboration of the governments of the Ibero-American community to promote the Social Economy business model in the countries that make up said community and create a favorable environment for the recovery and socioeconomic reconstruction of the region.

It was attended by Authorities from different European countries, representatives of the European Social Economy and Community Institutions. The resilience and rapid recovery capacity of the Social Economy business model in the hardest moments of the pandemic was one of the central axes of the day.
