(Madrid, May 8, 2017) .- The Government of Costa Rica and the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES) held a meeting in Madrid with the aim of promoting joint actions to boost this business sector.
The meeting, held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Madrid, was attended by Costa Rica, its first lady, Mercedes Peñas ; And the Minister of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC), Geannina Dinarte . In addition, during part of the meeting also participated the president of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solís . On the Spanish side, the president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño , received the Costa Rican delegation; And the CEPES vice-president, Rafael de Lorenzo .
This meeting was a continuation of the one held at CEPES headquarters last October, in which it was agreed to establish bilateral channels to enhance and give visibility to the Costa Rican Social Economy, as well as to promote collaboration between companies and entities of Social Economy both countries.
In Costa Rica there are 887,335 people associated with companies and entities of the Social Economy, which represents 21% of the population. The 594 cooperatives of the Central American country generated 21,632 direct jobs, according to the IV National Cooperative Census 2012.
MEETING WITH FÁTIMA BÁÑEZ
Today, the Minister of Employment and Social Security, Fatima Báñez, held a meeting with Mercedes Peña and Geannina Dinarte Romero. During the meeting, described as 'very cordial and constructive', they dealt with topics of mutual interest such as the development of the Social Economy in both countries and in the Ibero-American context; And the promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility in Spain and Costa Rica.
