(Brussels, April 13, 2018) .- The Spanish Social Economy led the public audition of the Social Economy Intergroup 'A new generation of public policies for the Social Economy', held in the European Parliament. In this event, the representatives of the community institutions, member states and representative entities of the Social Economy debated about policies to strengthen this business sector, which represents 8% of the EU GDP and 11.6 million jobs.
Spain was represented by a delegation at the highest level, headed by the general director of Autonomous Work, Social Economy and Social Responsibility of Companies of the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, Carmen Casero ; the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras ; the Vice President of Economic Development of the Government of Navarra, Manu Ayerdi ; the director of Social Economy of the Basque Government, Jokin Díaz ; and the president of the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES) and Social Economy Europe (SEE), Juan Antonio Pedreño .
The president of the European Economic and Social Committee, George Dassis , took part in the inauguration, giving way to the round table 'Effective social economy policies' moderated by Pedreño, who transferred the demand of the 2.8 million European companies to the MEPs of social economy to endow the EU with an Action Plan with concrete measures to enhance its contribution to job creation and social cohesion. Pedreño highlighted the commitment of the European Commission and many EU governments that are launching innovative measures in favor of the Social Economy, as in the case of Luxembourg or Spain with the recently approved Social Economy 2020 Strategy.
In the round table moderated by the president of CEPES and SEE, the Minister of Social Economy of the Government of Luxembourg, Nicolas Schmit , and the general director of the Autonomous Work of the Social Economy and Social Responsibility of Companies of the Ministry of Employment and Employment intervened. Casero stressed that the Government of Spain has recently approved the Spanish Strategy for Social Economy 2020, which is a pioneer in Europe and has 11 strategic axes and 65 measures, with an allocation of 1,000,000 euros.

The Vice President of Social Economy Europe, Luigi Martignetti, moderated the round table 'Regional Policies for the Social Economy in Europe' in which the Autonomous Communities of Murcia, Navarre and the Basque Country took part.
The president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras , presented the Pact for Excellence developed by this Autonomous Community, which, with a budget of more than 52 million euros, has 8 action lines, 64 actions and 623 projects.
López Miras affirmed that the Pact for Excellence will create 10,500 jobs in Murcia, as well as 250 new companies and an increase of 15% in social inclusion jobs.
In addition, he noted that the Pact for Excellence is "a good example" to develop action plans in other regions and countries of the EU. He also stressed that, thanks to this commitment to the Social Economy, Murcia has managed to lead the creation of jobs in Spain.
The Vice President of Economic Development of the Government of Navarra, Manu Ayerdi , explained that, thanks to the 'Social Economy Plan 2017-2020' approved by the Autonomous Community, he hopes that in the year 2020 employment in the Social Economy will increase by 20 % and that 10% of new companies belong to this economic fabric.
Ayerdi added that the evolution in companies and employment has grown exponentially in recent years in Navarre, thanks to the commitment to the Social Economy.
The Director of Social Economy of the Basque Government, Jokin Diaz , said that this business sector represents 10.38% of employment and 18% of companies in this Autonomous Community, a world leader in associated work cooperatives.
In this round table also participated the member of the council of the region of the Swedish county of Örebro, Bengt Storbacka ; who pointed out the strategy that they are implementing at the local level to reinforce the social economy as a key actor in the provision of social services and social inclusion; and the head of the Clusters, Social Economy and Entrepreneurship Unit of the European Commission, Ulla Engelmann ; who recalled that the Commission is implementing a set of measures and actions in favor of the social economy that they are promoting in close cooperation with the regional and local powers.
After the celebration of this event, Juan Antonio Pedreño declared in Brussels that "Spain has once again demonstrated that it is an outstanding student in a Europe that places the social economy at the center of its policies in favor of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. "
