  • According to the latest data provided by CEPES, Social Economy enterprises maintain their 2.4 million jobs directly and indirectly in Spain since the beginning of the crisis.

(Madrid, July 29, 2013). - The president of the Employers CEPES-Social Economy, Juan Antonio Pedreño, said today "the proven strength of Social Economy enterprises to maintain and create stable and quality" After presenting the data of all the bodies covered by CEPES in 2012.

"Through the combination of solidarity and profitability," said Pedreño, "the Social Economy enterprises have proven to be an effective instrument in the fight against unemployment, to contribute actively encourage entrepreneurship and hiring."

"Try it," added the president of CEPES, "is that since the crisis began five years ago, the whole social economy has maintained employment in Spain, with more than 2,400,000, plus have been created in 20,000 new companies "during this period.

In 2012, they have created more than 2,000 companies all cooperatives and labor, and created 15,834 new jobs (10,719 in cooperative societies 3,985 in labor, 452 and 768 integration companies in special employment centers)

In the second quarter of 2013, we see that Aragon, Catalonia, Extremadura and Murcia lead job creation in social economy, mainly in Cooperatives. According to data published in these communities have created 5,778 new jobs (1,136 Aragón, Extremadura 2,786, Catalonia and Murcia 939 917).

The global economic magnitudes framed CEPES sector in 2012 indicate a number of companies 42,684, 2,564,934 direct and indirect jobs, 145.299 million euros in turnover and 15,075,103 of people associated to an entity of Social Economy.

Another important aspect of Social Economy enterprises is the high permanent contracts, since less than a quarter of its workers, 23.7% are on contract (after 76.3% are undefined).

Pedreño has stressed that "the social economy has not only proven to be a formula for success in job creation and entrepreneurship, but also brings significant value to promote territorial cohesion, avoid offshoring occupationally and integrate groups with difficulties in finding a job.
