The Euro-Mediterranean Network of Social Economy (ESMED) is reinforced as a benchmark of the social economy in this region, after increasing its membership with the addition of the Moroccan Network Social and Solidarity Economy (REMESS) at the meeting held in the city of Hammamet (Tunisia).
REMESS is one of the most representative organizations of the social economy in Morocco. It brings together 52 local networks and Social Economy Unions representing 530 organizations, mostly associations and cooperatives.
Furthermore, REMESS is an actor recognized by the Government of Morocco, who helps with the implementation of policies for the development of the social economy. REMESS also has poles of regional development in Morocco, giving innovative solutions, especially job creation through local projectsRural and Social Economy.
The president of the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES), Juan Antonio Pedreño, it has highlighted that Morocco is a country that is undergoing significant development of the social economy. "The strong involvement and cooperation of the Moroccan representative industry organizations with other countries ESMED Network will serve to give greater visibility to the Mediterranean Social Economy as one of the best examples in the world ", has registered the representative of the employer of the Spanish Social Economy.
Companies and organizations of the social economy have a strong presence in the Euro-Mediterranean region. In the nine countries that are part of the more than 500,000 Red ESMED Social Economy companies that generate more than 7 million jobs are posted.
The aim of the ESMED Red, which was created in 2000 and is coordinated by CEPES since then, is to promote dialogue and cooperation between the main representative organizations of the social economy of the south and north of the Mediterranean. With the addition of REMESS expands its membership to 14 organizations.
New lines of work for 2014
In Hammamet gathered members ESMED Network Algeria, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco and Tunisia, who positively assessed the results of the work of the Red ESMED for the visibility of the Social Economy. Members agreed also establish new lines of work to meet the needs of theSocial Economy at the institutional level.
Organizations Southern Mediterranean noted the importance of working together to strengthen the regulatory framework of the different forms of social economy in their respective countries, requesting the support of its partners to advance a better recognition of the Social Economy at the legislative level. ESMED Network Members approved seeking synergies and activities with other actors in the social economy, in order to launch services and projects for the development of the whole social economy.
Juan Antonio Pedreño has emphasized that "CEPES, as an organization that coordinates ESMED Network, will launch with all members a schedule that allows the whole of the Mediterranean Social Economy have a greater impact to the European Commission and the Union for the Mediterranean. Our goal is to promote initiatives that contribute to sustainable economic and social development from the Social Economy.The companies in the south and north of the Mediterranean share common challenges, which the Social Economy provides answers to that goal we all aspire to turn the Mediterranean into a zone of shared prosperity reality.
