Madrid, January 25, 2018.- On January 19, the president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño, held a meeting with the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America and the Caribbean, Fernando García Casas, to present the proposals to the V Master Plan of the Cooperation 2018-2021 currently in process, the conclusions of the III Report on the experience of the Spanish companies of Social Economy in the Development Cooperation 2015-2017, prepared by CEPES and the contribution of the Social Economy to the Sustainable Development Goals through Cooperation.
Accompanying the Secretary of State, the Ambassador participated in a special mission for the 2030 agenda, Juan Francisco Montalbán and the Deputy Director General for planning, policy coherence and evaluation of the General Directorate for Sustainable Development Policies, Mon Gonzalez .
The president of CEPES valued the meeting very positively since the contribution of the Social Economy to the reduction of inequalities and to the generation of an inclusive economic growth was confirmed, objectives that coincide with the policies of cooperation for development. Therefore, CEPES claimed that the Social Economy has to play an important role in the V Master Plan.
The meeting was used to present the report prepared by CEPES, which shows the reality and added value that the Spanish Economy provides in terms of Development Cooperation. It confirms that this economic model is an engine of change demanded by the United Nations in the 2030 Agenda, as it is a key actor in the policies of cooperation and sustainable development.
III Report on the experience of Spanish companies in the Social Economy in Development Cooperation 2015-2017
The Spanish companies and entities of the Social Economy represented in CEPES have managed, from 2015 to the present, 44 Development Cooperation projects in 23 countries worth 13 million euros that have improved the lives of at least 44,000 people and 9,500 families , helping them to build a more favorable environment in their countries.
"The vocation of social transformation motivates the Spanish Social Economy to be committed not only to its closest environment, but also to the development of other territories and countries that lack the same opportunities as us, as demonstrated by their experience in cooperation with development ", explained the president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño .
"Spanish Social Economy companies are involved in the fulfillment of 14 of the 17 objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda thanks to the added value that our business model brings to the aspirations of generating global change by working from and for territories".
"This is so," adds the president of CEPES, "because the Social Economy is a model based on participation and solidarity, which gives priority to respond to the needs of people and because - as this report highlights - the activity economic is not an end in itself in the Social Economy, but an instrument to generate inclusive growth that transforms the community where entrepreneurship arises. "
The 'III Report on the experience of Spanish companies in the Social Economy in Development Cooperation 2015-2017 also highlights how the Master Plans made up to now in Spain have recognized this business model as a key actor "especially in those areas related to promotion of the economic fabric ".
