Madrid, February 25, 2019. - CEPES has attended a first working meeting in Brussels with the participation of Joost Korte , General Director responsible for Employment and heads of the Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the Commission. European This meeting marked the starting point to establish dissemination and visibility actions that CEPES will carry out together with social organizations from all member states.

This "Pillar" is one of the main political initiatives promoted by the European Commission during the current European legislature, which aims to increase social progress in the EU. It was proclaimed in November 2017 by all States with the commitment to advance a social agenda of 20 principles and rights divided into three categories: equal opportunities and access to the labor market; dynamic labor markets and fair working conditions; protection and social inclusion.

CEPES will work with the Commission and with other social actors from the rest of EU Member States to make known in the member states how the "European Pillar" enforces the social rights of all European citizens.

The president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño , has indicated that the collaboration with the European Commission responds to the commitment of CEPES to advance in the construction of a Social Europe in which social economy companies have a central role. "The social economy - Pedreño has recalled - contributes to achieving great challenges that the European Pillar marks such as gender equality and the creation of stable, quality and inclusive employment. Pedreño recalls that in the Social Economy half of the workforce is female and 80% of the jobs are indefinite and full-time. It is also a business model that redistributes wealth, has a great presence in the territory and offers opportunities to all people, especially for those furthest from the labor market. "
