• On September 22, the Progress report “The implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Spain” was made public.
• The president of CEPES affirms that this recognition “values and accentuates the work carried out by the Social Economy and promotes CEPES to materialize the 2030 Agenda”.
Madrid, September 30, 2019.- The report highlights the role of CEPES and the Social Economy in fulfilling the 2030 Agenda in Spain. Likewise, it indicates the Spanish Strategy of the Social Economy 2017-2020 as a leverage policy to meet several of the Sustainable Development (SDG) objectives.
Leverage policies are those programs or policies with the ability to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs, promote coherent sustainable development and achieve a faster and more sustained impact on key aspects for progress in the 2030 Agenda as a whole. They should be understood as instruments transversal to facilitate the generation of synergies, so that they connect different actors, sectors and policies in a common integrated vision. Among the nine policies, lever VII policy is included. 'The Social Economy: 2017-2020 Strategy'.
According to the report: "There is no doubt that the business model of the Social Economy and the importance that it gives to the welfare and employment of people, has a leading role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda." In this sense, according to the text, several actions have been carried out, of which (within the framework of the Spanish Social Economy Strategy 2017-20209) the following stand out:
• Activities aimed at increasing the visibility of Social Economy entities and disseminating their activity with the publication of statistical data, preparation of specific publications or presence in conferences, seminars, etc.
• Elimination of barriers that may prevent or limit the development of social economy entities, especially the implementation of the “Telematic Registry of State-level Cooperatives”.
• Boosting the consolidation of companies in the social economy and their growth, especially based on the annual calls for grants to associations of autonomous work, social economy and corporate social responsibility.
• Promotion of the institutional participation of the social economy through the presence in consultative bodies at state and territorial level that allow collaboration and coordination of measures.
• Development of the Social Economy within the framework of the International Agenda and, especially, in Latin America, Europe and the Mediterranean through participation in groups, networks, and programs aimed at that end and that allow the strengthening of ties with other countries in this field.
• Participation of the Social Economy in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in forums and conferences and, especially as a member of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security in the Monitoring Committee of the “Action Plan Nacional of Companies and Human Rights ”.
• Support for actions aimed at research in collaboration with universities, research centers and editorial boards.
• The ICO social bond issues (pioneers in Spain) that between 2015 and 2019 have contributed to the maintenance and generation of some 270,000 jobs in the most disadvantaged regions of Spain, with a GDP below the national average. From the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security, the implementation of the Spanish Social Economy Strategy 2017-2020 and its 11 lines of action and 63 measures will continue. In the activities in which the system of distribution of competencies so requires, they will be incorporated into the Autonomous Communities in the achievement of the objectives of the Strategy.
In addition, the text highlights the main actions and activities carried out by CEPES in the framework of the 2030 Agenda, which have revolved around the generation of reports, training, dissemination and awareness.
SDG, PRIORITY FOR THE SOCIAL ECONOMY
The president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño , has stressed the importance of recognition of the Social Economy and CEPES reflected in the Progress Report of the 2030 Agenda: “It values and accentuates the work carried out by the Social Economy and promotes CEPES to materialize the Agenda 2030, ”he said.
“For our business model,” added Pedreño, “the SDGs are a priority because we share the objective of guaranteeing a better future for future generations, based on sustainable growth and ensuring an equitable distribution of wealth and better life opportunities to everybody".
The report also underlines the document, prepared by CEPES, 'The contribution of the Social Economy to the SDGs through development cooperation', which shows how these actions in third countries contribute to 14 of the 17 SDGs.
It also echoes the work carried out by CEPES regarding the promotion of training through the organization of the session 'The social economy in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: challenges and opportunities', on implications of the 2030 Agenda for The Social Economy
Likewise, CEPES has participated in different institutional meetings, such as the private sector working group that, coordinated by the Spanish Global Compact Network, analyzed and promoted the role of Spanish companies in the SDGs. In addition, CEPES participates with two positions in the Sustainable Development Council from which it values all the work of the Social Economy in achieving the SDGs.
In the coming months, CEPES will continue executing its activity plan for 2019 to sensitize the Social Economy sector on the 2030 Agenda and make its role visible to society and other actors.
An important moment will be the month of December, in which CEPES will make its new report public where it analyzes the contribution of the Social Economy to the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda. The first results confirm the commitment of the business fabric of the Social Economy with the 2030 Agenda and especially with the Objectives on the creation of decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), quality education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), responsible production and consumption (SDG 12), the fight against climate change ( SDG 13), access to health and well-being (SDG 3), end of poverty (SDG 1), partnerships to achieve the Goals (SDG 17), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), fight against hunger (SDG 2 ), promotion of sustainable energy (SDG 7), respect for the marine environment (SDG 14), promotion of sustainable terrestrial ecosystems (SDG 15), reduction of inequality (SDG 10), access to water (SDG 6) and sustainable industriesibles (SDG 9).
