Madrid, December 11, 2019. Postgraduate training in Social Economy continues to grow in the university environment. This is indicated by the report 'The Social Economy in postgraduate university education: academic year 2019-2020' which indicates that 65% of the universities consulted take a course on entrepreneurship, creation and management of Social Economy companies. The study carried out includes a total of 131 postgraduate training actions and 3 doctorates that are being offered in this academic year. The report for the first time collects information on 15 chairs of Social Economy active in Spanish Universities.
In the last year, there is a 15% increase in the number of universities that carry out training in Social Economy. “Likewise, the postgraduate training actions offered by these universities have increased by 14% compared to the previous academic year,” says CEPES president, Juan Antonio Pedreño.
Regarding the total figures, Pedreño points out that “we observe that more and more Spanish universities are joining the Social Economy and offering a more open range of possibilities. Despite these positive data, the offer is still limited and capable of improvement in the coming years, so the academic sector must continue to strengthen its support for the promotion and dissemination of this training offer. ”
Autonomous Communities with more training actions in Social Economy
Of the 134 postgraduate and doctoral training actions related to the Social Economy, 24 have been carried out in Catalonia, being the autonomous community, which has more studies of this type. Basque Country follows, with 20; Andalusia, with 19; Castilla León, with 18; and the Community of Madrid, with 15 training actions.
In this exercise, the report, which CEPES carries out since 2012, is part of the catalog of actions that CEPES develops within the Spanish strategic framework of Social Economy 2017-2020, approved by the Government of Spain and whose ultimate objective is the implementation of instruments that promote the entities of the Social Economy, such as, for example, by increasing the visibility of social economy entities and disseminating their activity.
“The objective is to generate instruments and mechanisms to increase the knowledge of Spanish citizens about the values of this business model, focused mainly on the person, democracy, solidarity and sustainability, in addition to making visible the weight, added value and the contribution of these companies to the socioeconomic development of the country, especially through educational programs, ”said Pedreño.
