Madrid, February 12, 2020.- The Board of Directors of the Spanish Business Confederation of the Social Economy (CEPES) has approved the incorporation of Covirán, a cooperative distribution chain with more than 3,000 supermarkets in Spain and Portugal, as a full member . With this adhesion, the employer of the Social Economy, has 27 member partners. All of them, top representatives of the Social Market Economy of Spain.
Covirán is a cooperative of food distribution of Granada origin that began its activity in 1961 and, currently, occupies the second place in the national food distribution ranking by number of adhered businesses (3,034) and ninth place by number of square meters of sales room (461,006 m2), it has 2,467 members (independent retailers, owners of food supermarkets and 15,653 non-partner workers).
In addition, Covirán provides independent retailers, its customers and society with local supermarkets through a comprehensive business offer, based on profitability, trust, cooperation and the generation of growth in the local economy.
The president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño , stressed that “the incorporation of Covirán to CEPES reinforces the business dimension of the Social Economy in the distribution sector, where cooperative proximity supermarkets represent a socially valued and committed model, at the same time to promote entrepreneurship and the economic and social development of those territories in which they settle ”.
The president of Covirán, Patro Contreras , has declared “The integration of Covirán in Cepes puts in value the 2,467 partners of Covirán who have chosen a model of participatory and solidary economy that preserves cooperative values and principles, and competes in the market without lose their roots We are convinced that social economy companies, those that make up Cepes, are sustainable companies, true economic and social drivers in the territories where we are established. Generating shared value is and will be a priority. ”
