(Madrid, September 7, 2011). Social economy enterprises provide a year around 4,000 million euros annuallyto social and territorial cohesion Spanish according to a study by the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES)
This study, "The socioeconomic impact of the principles of social economy enterprises",supports differential behavior in the market for social economy enterprises, quantifying their economic contribution to social and territorial cohesion. For the first time, this economic impact analysis has been avoiding the difficulties of national accounts and statistical sources, which clearly do not include such entities.
The Social Economy is an undeniable reality in the Spanish socio-economic scenario. More than 45,000 companies, 2,350,000 jobs and a turnover of around EUR 100,000 million, support this assertion, states the president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedroza.
For the Chairman of CEPES, this economic reality, coexists with a significant lack of principles and above all of his significant contribution to society. Considers that Law 5/2011 of the Social Economywill certainly help you visualize this business model, the characteristics and operating principles, but have been extensively analyzed from different disciplines has been difficult to translate them into measurable effects and evaluate.
For this reason, CEPES has decided to conduct this study, with the technical collaboration of Economic and Social Analysts Abay, with the objective of outlining an analysis of the socioeconomic impact of social economy organizations in Spain, for it has been used Sample source novel statistical Continuous Lives Weekdays (MCVL)which has 1,200,000 people and information compiled by the General Treasury of Social Security, Tax and Registration Office.
Another novel aspect is the large sample study which analyzes, as they have been identified and analyzed approximately 6,400 social economy enterprises and 15,000 workersof such entities and compared with a control group consisting of a number of companies and workers, all Corporations and Limited (6978 companies and 15,826 employees) that are distributed by size and sector.
The starting thesis of this impact assessment is specified in the values "?"?shared by social economy enterprises translate into a differential behavior in relation to the characteristics of those who shape their workforce and working conditions of its employees, its specialization, and geographic location.
Effects on Social Cohesion analyzing the study focus on the following aspects: Occupation groups with difficulties in accessing the labor market, job quality, improving equal opportunities and the provision of social services and other interest general. As for the effects on Territorial Cohesion analyzing the report, focus on:Creation of economic activity and employment in rural areas, rural economic competitiveness and effects associated with maintaining the rural population.
And are the results of this specific behavior that give content to the important contribution of these companies to social cohesion and territorial cohesion.
With these elements, the study provides direct benefits of approximately 2.845 million per year that come from net revenues generated and received by families, businesses and public administrations linked to the contribution of these companies to social cohesion.
Indirect benefitssocial cohesion, which correspond to the spending has not been realized thanks to the differential behavior of social economy enterprises are estimated at 560 million euros annually. This implies that the total benefits, direct and indirect, associated with the contribution to social cohesion amounted to 3.405 million per year.
In relation to territorial cohesion, the results indicate that the direct benefits amounting to 393 million euros, of which most are net wage income of workers and the rest are for personal income tax revenues and contributions to the Social Security. The above figures are addedadditional 132 million in indirect benefits, savings benefits for the tax and welfare linked to unemployment. Therefore, the total profits for the territorial cohesion axis correspond to some 525 million euros annually.
Analyzed the numerous data from the study, and in order to approximate a scenario in which there were no securities of companies ofSocial Economy, Economic and Social Analysts Abay, has conducted a simulation exercise in which the Social Economy companies "lose their principles" and pass to behave like ordinary enterprises, adopting the average values "?"?of the latter. The results of this change are specified in the following:
-About 158,000 workers in a group with limited access to the occupation would lose their jobs. Of these, 84,403 disabled workers would, 1,622 workers at risk of social exclusion, 6,635 workers over 55 years, 3,664 women 45 years and 61,562 low-skilled workers.
-A large number of workers would be modified their working conditions: about 6,800 workers (not covered by the collective above) would have to change your current full-time for a part-time unwanted and nearly 156,000 workers their wages would be reduced.
-Year, nearly 10,500 workers who have enjoyed continuous periods of employment in the social economy would have one or more experiences of unemployment.
- A significant number of workers would be affected by issues related to equal opportunities in the company:more than 4,100 employees belonging to groups typically under-represented in top positions of companies (over 55, disabled or women) would cease to occupy these positions.
- If the offer is canceled social economy of social services or social interest, that is, if your interest in these services would be similar to ordinary enterprises, around 1,000 companies currently providing services for seniors and persons with disabilities and about 2,500 companies in the field of education and other social services (including childcare) would disappear, significantly affecting both the level of diversity on offer in this activity.
- If social economy enterprises to behave like "ordinary business" when choosing your location would be lost about 59,000 jobs in rural areas and the population living in these areas may be reduced by about 102,000 people.
For the president of CEPES, all these data analysis showed the strength of the sector and the need for the Social Economy company is one of the protagonists of the new production model which aims to build. The commitment of this business sector to generate an economy based mainly on people, quality and stability of employment, competitiveness, local development, entrepreneurship, solidarity and innovation, this report is confirmed by pioneer and developer of the contribution of these businesses in the current economic partner.
