Madrid, October 2, 2020 .- The United Nations has placed the Social Economy as one of the priorities in global reconstruction policies in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
This is one of the conclusions that were presented at the Meeting of Heads of State held last week, in which participated, among others, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres ; the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez ; the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau ; as well as leaders of 57 states, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
In this meeting, called " High-level event on Financing for development in the era of COVID-19 ", it was agreed to "strengthen people-centered companies that sustain the Social Economy" within the measures to ensure "a transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive system, and a resilient future, with human rights and gender equality at the center ”.
These UN recommendations coincide with those of the Government of Spain, as stated in the recent meeting of President Pedro Sánchez with a delegation from the Board of Directors last week at the Palacio de la Moncloa
In addition, the UN document specifies that in the face of "the unprecedented destruction of jobs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic," which "requires large-scale action and strong financial support," "public funds" are necessary to tackling “large-scale unemployment and the overload of health systems” to ensure a universal basic income, generate employment, provide specific support to the informal economy and strengthen the Social Economy.
The president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño , stressed that in these moments that we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the 2030 Agenda, “these conclusions reflected by the United Nations in favor of the Social Economy are in tune with those collected by the European Commission, whose President, Ursula von der Leyen , has commissioned to implement in the current legislature a European Action Plan for the Social Economy ”.
“For this reason”, added the president of CEPES, “both the United Nations and the EU are aligned in favor of promoting a reconstruction based on the 2030 Agenda, and in it theSocial Economy plays a priority role by generating companies that combine economic and social development, committed to the territory and that do not relocate, that generate stable and quality employment and in which innovation, sustainability, inclusion and people are prioritized. ”.
"In addition, it should be noted that these important conclusions gathered in the meeting of Heads of State will be transferred and debated within the meetings that will be held soon by the G7, the G20 and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)," he added Pedreño.
