Valencia, June 13, 2022.- "We are at the right time to address the economic, systemic and
impact changes that will make the social economy consolidate," said the president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño,
during the inauguration of the 33rd
International Congress of CIRIEC, which is held from today until Wednesday
in the city of Valencia.
With these words he referred to the implementation of various instruments
in recent months, both at the state and
international level, which favor the promotion of the social economy, such
as the recent presentation by the
president of the government of the PERTE of Social Economy and Care or the European Action Plan for social
economy, with which it is intended
to increase the weight of this business model in European GDP from 6.8% to 10%
in the next 8 years.
He also referred to the recent adoption
by the OECD and ilo of important documents on the social economy.
"There is no doubt that this model is a business agent of change to face
the just and inclusive transitions," said Pedreño, and recalled the
consideration of the social economy by the European Commission as one of the 14
industrial ecosystems for economic and social recovery.
"This congress joins this ambitious framework for the Social Economy.
In addition, Spain leads the development of the social economy in Europe,"
he continued. Pedreño ended his speech by alluding to the need for the social economy to participate in social
dialogue.

of Concoval (Confederació de Cooperatives de la Comunitat Valenciana), Emilio Villaescusa,

For his part, Joan Ribó stressed that "this congress is part of a time when
social economy companies are booming, although they have great challenges in
the face of the difficulties in Europe marked by the war in Ukraine and the
pandemic" and stressed the importance of this congress "to set
challenges and define the strategies to be carried out".
VALENCIAN REPRESENTATIVENESS
The 33rd International Congress of CIRIEC is held in the city of Valencia for various reasons. One
of them is that the headquarters of CIRIEC Spain is located in Valencia,

economy companies," said the president
of CONCOVAL, Emili Villaescusa.
On the other hand, he highlighted the character of
"cooperative land" of community and pointed out that "it is a

alluded to the importance of social cohesion and employment. "Without

employment as a fundamental part of economies.
Valencian cooperativism represents 7.1% of the region´s GDP and 80,000
