7% of Galician GDP.
Madrid, September 21, 2022.- The Spanish
Business Confederation of the Social Economy (CEPES) has gathered for two
days in Santiago de Compostela its
top leaders to deepen the strategy
that the Confederation will launch in the coming years to mark a roadmap that
promotes the growth of this business model.
The city has been chosen for these days of reflection within the framework
of the capital of Social Economy that
the Galician city holds in 2022, as part of an intense agenda of events
that are being held to strengthen the capital.
Within the framework of the Board of Directors of CEPES, the Minister of
Promotion of Employment and Equality,
María Jesús Lorenzana; the mayor of
Santiago de Compostela, Xosé Sánchez
Bugallo, and the general secretary of Employment and Social Economy, Covadonga Toca, to show their support
for this business model, which represents around 10% of GDP in Spain, and 7% of
Galician GDP.
For his part, Lorenzana has
confirmed the "great support" provided for years by the Xunta to the
Social Economy, while he has valued the role of the Galician sector of this
business model, represented by FOROESGAL (Forum for the Galician Social
Economy), "which is responding very successfully to the growth of the
sector in the region".
He also explained that, as part of the policies of the Xunta, there is a
great commitment to entrepreneurship with Social Economy formulas, and has
pointed out that in 2021 174 new companies were created.
As he has announced, the current Galician Social Economy Strategy "has
been more than fulfilled as expected", and, in addition, work is being
done on the new one, with an increase in resources. In fact, he explained, in
2022, the budget for the Social Economy "amounts to 35 million, 6% more
than the previous year."
"With these resources we have to be able to increase the
competitiveness of companies, to help them to the digital transformation and
consolidate their growth," he added.
In addition, as highlighted by the mayor
of the city, Xosé Sánchez, from the City Council "there is a great
commitment to technology and research and to design a powerful and flexible
roadmap that faces the challenges of the market".
For him, the fact that Santiago de Compostela has been named Spanish
capital of the Social Economy "makes visible the great business fabric of
the Galician Social Economy, which plays a fundamental role in the local
economy".
Finally, the president of CEPES, Juan
Antonio Pedreño, has pointed out that in the current socio-economic
scenario, these days of reflection are necessary and opportune to define the
future strategy of the Social Economy, to be more competitive, to be more
visible and to grow to change scale". In this
context, he has also highlighted the "unique and exceptional moment"
that the Spanish and European Social Economy is experiencing.
"Governments, European and international institutions, such as ILO, OECD
or United Nations, are adopting resolutions and initiatives to enhance and
strengthen this business model in the world," he said.
In addition, it has influenced the challenge set by the European Social
Economy Action Plan to go from the current 14 million jobs in this business
model to 22 million in 2030. As he said, "we want to grow and change
scale, not only to increase the competitiveness of companies, but so that all
public policies include Social Economy companies."
He also thanked the presence of the authorities, as well as the support of
FOROESGAL, the representative entity of the Galician Social Economy.
